Many of our guests ask what is the best time of year to visit Yellowstone. The answer depends on what you are most interested in doing during your stay. Here is a short summary of Yellowstone by the season.
Spring is the time of plentiful wildlife, roaring waterfalls, and unpredictable weather. We see all kinds of weather in the springtime, from one extreme to the other.
Summer is a great time to visit, the weather is warm and there is lots to see. But everyone else has the same idea too. So if you’re planning a summer trip, it’s best to get going early in the morning. Morning is a great time to spot wildlife too.
Fall in Yellowstone has a special feeling to it. The animals are preparing for winter, and there is a sense of expectancy. Everything is winding down, including the crowds at Yellowstone.
Winter is a time of quiet solitude. Travel is somewhat restricted unless you take a snowcoach or guided snowmobile tour. The activities of winter are different than those of the other months of the year.
